N.E. Grant (1897-1971)

Noel Edward Grant attested into the 6th S.A.I (2nd Brigade, South African Expeditionary Force) for service in German East Africa on the 06/12/1915. He was issued the Regimental number of 3196.

He was 18 yrs old at the time and single. His profession was noted as Engineer. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Annie Margaret Grant of 413 Pietermaritzburg Street, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa.
Grant embarked on the 09/01/1916 for GEA and was to serve until the 17/12/1916 when he was returned to the Union for discharge. He was not a well man and spent much time in and out of hospital suffering from Malaria and Dysentery. He was discharged from the Wynberg military base in Cape Town and returned to Natal to continue with his civil position with the Department of Post and Telegraphs in Pietermaritzburg.

Sold with copies of papers from his file held in the SANDF Archives.
